Celebrate a momentous day with us as we take you back to the grand opening of Tulum Art Club in 2016 – a historic event that marked the birth of the first independent art space in Tulum. This captivating video captures the essence of our art haven's inception, as artists from diverse backgrounds came together to unleash their creativity and share their passion for art. Join in the jubilation as we reminisce about the vibrant energy, artistic performances, and the spirit of community that enveloped our space on that special day. Relive the magic and embark on a nostalgic journey through this memorable video.

Ten years ago, Tulum Art Club took its initial steps as Residencia Gorila, a platform driven by the desire to make a positive impact through art. It was during this early stage that we embarked on our first mural project, collaborating with the talented artists Aaron Glasson and Celeste Byers. Little did we know that this project would become the catalyst for an innovative initiative addressing a pressing environmental concern in the Mexican Caribbean.

The Lionfish Invasion: The lionfish, a species native to the Indo-Pacific, mysteriously found its way into the Caribbean waters in the early 1990s. Rapidly multiplying and feeding on vulnerable marine life, these invaders pose a significant threat to the delicate underwater ecosystem. With their numbers spiraling out of control, urgent measures are required to prevent further damage to reefs and native fish species.

In response to this ecological challenge, Residencia Gorila initiated the Lionfish Project. The aim is to tackle the lionfish population by promoting its consumption through audiovisual and street art, community engagement, and viral campaigns. By transforming lionfish into a sought-after cuisine, we can effectively reduce their numbers and alleviate their impact on the Caribbean ecosystem.

"Liva and the Lionfish" is a captivating documentation of our first mural, brought to life by the artistic brilliance of Celeste Byers and Aaron Glasson in Tulum, Mexico. Their vivid artwork serves as a visual reminder of the importance of addressing environmental issues through creativity and community involvement.

Conclusion: At Tulum Art Club, we believe in the power of art to inspire change and create solutions. The Lionfish Project exemplifies our commitment to environmental preservation, cultural collaboration, and innovative thinking. Join us on this journey as we continue to harness the transformative potential of art to protect and restore the precious ecosystems we cherish.
