The Lionfish Project

El pez león, una especie nativa del Indopacífico, fue de alguna manera liberado en el Caribe a principios de la década de 1990. Desde entonces se han multiplicado y extendido y ahora se consideran una especie invasora aquí en México. Alimentándose de una pequeña y venerable vida marina, constituyen una amenaza real y creciente para el ecosistema submarino de todo el Caribe. A menos que se controle su número mediante la erradicación, continuarán reproduciéndose exponencialmente, causando graves daños a los arrecifes y a varias especies de peces.

El objetivo del PROYECTO PECES LEONES de Residencia Gorila es reducir la población de peces león en el Caribe mexicano aumentando su consumo a través del arte audiovisual y callejero, el contacto directo con la comunidad y las campañas virales. El objetivo es transformar al pez león en la mejor cocina de la región.

Lionfish, a native species of the Indo-pacific, were somehow released into the Caribbean in the early 1990's. They have since multiplied and spread and are now considered an invasive species here in Mexico. Feeding on small venerable marine life they are a real and growing threat to the underwater ecosystem of the entire Caribbean. Unless their numbers are controlled through eradication they will continue to breed exponentially, causing serious damage to reefs and several species of fish.

Residencia Gorila's LIONFISH PROJECT aim is to reduce the lionfish population in the Mexican Caribbean by increasing it's consumption through audiovisual and street art, direct contact with community and viral campaigns. The goal is to transform Lionfish into the regions top cuisine.
