Reviving Tulum's Art Scene: Noe Colombo Residency and Exhibition

We are thrilled to reignite our residency program in partnership with Echoes Collective, a vibrant new initiative rooted in Tulum. Echoes Collective aims to rejuvenate and enhance the local art scene by offering cultural programming and extraordinary art residency experiences. These take place at the stylish Bacab Tulum, a creative complex designed for both residents and travelers seeking a local atmosphere, stylish design, and delicious food from their Mera restaurant.

This is the second residency we are running together, and we are very excited to share the progress and collaboration with Argentine artist Noe Colombo, who has been immersed in the Yucatan for the past few months.

About Noe Colombo: In His Own Words

"I grew up in a city surrounded by mountains, with a close bond to nature. Plants were a frequent presence in my home, found in every space—next to the table, beside the sofas, hanging in the bathroom, and especially in the patio and common areas. This love for plants was a family heritage, as my grandparents' and great-grandmother's homes were also filled with plants filtering the light through the windows.

In the 90s, a TV series called Animal Planet appeared, where you could see the crocodile hunter in action and other incredible animal phenomena. This was an absolute novelty for me, and I consumed every episode. This sparked a fascination with these magical and powerful beings that were outside of my earthly context. In these paintings, the animals are in the intimacy of life, resting calmly, expectant of what is to come.

'Onírico paisaje' is a tribute to these memories and to nature itself."

The Residency Experience

During this residency, Noe Colombo was able to create over 15 pieces, all of which will be exhibited at the upcoming show on the 19th in Tulum. Noe's work combines sculpture and painting, exploring themes of identity, connection, and spirituality. His art features sacred local symbols such as snakes, jaguars, and crocodiles, celebrated not only for their beauty but also for their oneiric, poetic, and spiritual significance.
